Try checking the driverlib Doxygen documentation for the function you are calling. It should have a list of valid values for each parameter.

That is the best answer I can give you since you didn't specify which specific Driverlib function you are trying to use, you didn't specify the version of Driverlib, and you didn't specify the part you are targeting.

Where is the Doxygen documentation? I am only familiar with the User's Guide. I am targeting the MSP430F5529.

In the doc folder of the install location for your driverlib installation.

on my PC, it's something like:

C:\ti\msp430\MSP430ware_1_40_00_24\doc\driverlib\MSP430F5xx_6xx\html\index.html

I would assume that CCS should have a link to it in that "resource explorer" thing it has, but I don't use CCS so you can find that out yourself.

I still don't get this doxygen thing. I installed everything in the default location (no sense in inviting trouble!), so I go here:

C:\ti\msp430\MSP430ware_1_90_00_30\doc\devices\5xx_6xx

And I see this:

which only links to the aforementioned User's Guide.

That is not the sub-folder that I recommended. Try the doc\driverlib\MSP430F5xx_6xx\html folder.

That does appear to be the mother lode of valid driverlib function values. For my specific question, the appropriate function value is "TIMER_B_CAPTURE_INPUTSELECT_CCIxA   CCIS_0"

One last thing that has been nagging me: frequently I find a section labelled, for instance, "DEPRECATED - Initializes Capture Mode." that appears to still work, in that it has worked for values that I tried. So does deprecated mean "this may work now, but may not in the next compiler rev"?.

Indeed, “deprecated” means “still there but not recommended for new design as it will be removed in future versions”. Usually, it is a function that is not really working as intended, unsafe in its current form, superfluous or incompatible with other features under certain conditions, and has been already functionally replaced by a different one.
