Error Initializing emulator: No USB FET was found

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430G2553

Hello,

I've been using the MSP-EXP430G2 launchpad to program the MSP430G2553.

I'm using Code Composer Studio 6.0.1 using  Windows 7 64 bit

I've been using the products for about 6 weeks. Just this morning this error message came up as I was trying to debug/load a new program. Usually unplugging and plugging back the USB cable works, this time it doesn't.
I've tried debugging from a friend's laptop (running windows 8) and his laptop crashes (blue screen) exactly after this error message comes up, twice. Naturally he doesn't want to test my launchpad anymore.

I've got 2 launchpads, the other one debugs/loads fine on the same CCS on the same machine.

The PWR LED0 turns green when connected to the computer, however it is not recognised by Device Manager. The other launchpad  shows up on Device Manager when plugged in as a USB Composite Device

Any ideas?

  • Hello Adrian,

Is the chip in the launchpad not burnt?

Have you done anything that could have burnt out the programmer like reverse the polarity somehow or over voltage?

  • Hi Luis,

I have multiple G2553 chips. let's call one launchpad A (error message) and the other B (works fine)

I've replaced the chips that was originally on A and B. launchpad A still refuses to program, launchpad B programs fine. Launchpad B is able to program any chip, including ones that was previously on launchpad A

I've also tested, using a blinky program, that I can load programs onto a chip using launchpad B, pull it out, plug it in launchpad A, and it will blink the LED.
