I have seen a similar behavior with an USB port checking software: when testing the power state of the USB devices, the mouse was freezing and had to be re-plugged. The author of this software said he had tracked this to some bad drivers for the USB controller. So it is not an LP issue but rather an issue with the host system’s USB controller driver. Try to get an updated version from the port controller manufacturer.
