Image File compiled for MSP430P325IPM can be used directly to MSP430P325AIPM?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430P325

Hi TI Folks,

I have a customer using the above mentioned MCUs(we know the ICs are EOL) and urgently need confirmation from TI to confirm if the Image file compiled for MSP430P325IPM could be used directly on MSP430P325AIPM?

Could TI's Engineer advice on this? Thank you very much

Regards,

Weiren

  • Let's see if Katie Pier (1555997) can get some information about the differences and if the A version is a direct replacement for the non-A  version.

Weiren, Katie get's noticed now since I have linked her in above. No need to cantact her yourself.

  • Hi Weiren, Dennis,

I'm looking into this, though it may take some time to find you the right answer.

    Weiren,

Is there a reason that the source code cannot simply be re-built for the A version? I'm going to check for an answer anyway, but was trying to get an idea of the use-case here. If it is not something you can share in a public forum, please feel free to send me a private message (click on my username and you should be able to start a conversation if needed).

    Regards,
    Katie

Hi Weiren, happy see this ancient member is still alive, it is EOL from very long time but seems big stock are around the world.

Uploading didn't work? I don't remember If code was compiled for A series or non A but just one file was at production in a similar device. (too much time elapsed and all hardware was early migrated to 4xx series on NRND announcement early to EOL)

Vnsky report as available both A and NON A version, see also on Alibaba some seller has more than 100K non a version unit old stock, try here see if can sell you at better price but also ask some other vintage hardware seller.

  • Hi Roberto,

Thanks for your inputs and information.

Will be doing the downloading of the firmware to chip soon. But I would like to get confirmation from TI on this.
I have checked the CCS, under the processor selection, there are only one option for MSP430P325, no further differentiation of A or non A. So logically, the image file should not have any differentiation too. Just hope to get confirmation from TI rather then using my logical assumption.

  • Hi Katie,

    Thanks for supporting this question.

Please help to check and advice.

From my understanding, the Engineer would like to avoid recompiling and use the same image file directly.

  • Hi Weiren,

I have consulted with the team on this about any changes between the two parts and impact on code. We don't see any change that should cause you to need to adapt your code between the two devices - nevertheless, we recommend that you check the software on the MSP430P325A before mass production just to be safe and mitigate risk. We don't anticipate any problems however.

    Katie

Hi Weiren, from what I remember compiled images of A and non A version where not different at all, so this simple test can be applied to your code too, try compile for both version on new IDE then compare generated code to see if they differ or not, remember same compiler and ide just change processor version. If not different use old good image, if they differ try investigate where they differ from.

  • Hi Katie,

Thank you very much for the help from you and your team. We will advise the Engineer accordingly.

  • Hi Roberto,

Thanks for your suggestion. This is one good way to check the differences. Appreciate your advises.
