Could I use an external non-crystal oscillator to clock one of the MCLK, SMCLK, or ACLK? The oscillator is basically a square wave with 50% duty rate at 13MHz. BTW, this would be for a MSP430F5529.

Hi Rodney,

yes, you can feed in an external clock source on XT2 in bypass mode. The user's guide tells you how to switch over to this mode. The input frequency range for an external clock source is from 0.7 to 32MHz.

Yep, the XT2 can take a 0.7-32MHz feed. But, also, the XT1 can take a 10-50kHz feed.

On G2 family, XT1 can also take a HF signal in bypass mode, even though the datasheet limits it to 50kHz. It might be worth a try if it makes the layout simpler.
However, the F5529 has XT2, so why not take it. The G devices only have XT1, so there is no choice.
