Value line launchpad possible minor change.

I got another g2 launchpad today to replace one I roasted by accident (my bad)...  but i noticed something silly  on it.   The pin headers are now done with stacking headers that are female headers under the board and pins above the board.   I like this change for the boosterpack community.

however the 4 little dots / feet are still on the board.  with this the female headers under the board they act as "feet".  and the dots are held off the surface a quarter of an inch and really serve no purpose anymore.  do they still need to be there?  just my thought when I saw it.

see what I mean.  I don't think it would save all that much money but being a "value line" LP i have to think any pennys saved help :)

  • >do they still need to be there?
Perhaps :) In case you have booster pack under launchpad, you have option to move those pads from launchpad to bottom side of the booster pack. It could be so that changing manufacturing process to NOT apply those pads to LaunchPad could be more expensive than leaving everything as it is now.
  • Which revision is it? The last G2 LaunchPads I ordered only had male headers soldered onto it (top), but not your type with also having female headers on the bottom. The first G2 LaunchPads came completely without headers soldered on the board. You had female and male headers to solder them yourself. But my last purchase isn't that long ago - got them from Digikey. I would prefer your version...is it just new?
  • I purchased this one from digikey last week, so maybe there are several versions in the supply chain and you don't know which batch type you are getting?
  • My one was Rev.1.5 (this is printed under MSP-EXP430G2 on the processor's side of the board). But maybe the hardware revision stays the same although they solder other headers onto the board.
