What behaviour happen these MSP-GANG error?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-GANG

I'm FAE of distributor in Japan,I support Automotive customers.

Our customer ask me some questions about MSP-GANG error messege.

Q1) What problem happen at ERROR #027 Flash write err?

They send command Verify after flash programming,

But this messege happen before verify.

I think this messege display communication trouble.

What problem happen? How to check communication in MSP-GANG?

Q2) If noise happen in VCC line,How much mS MSP-GANG can detect?

  • Hi Muramatsu-san,

Sorry for the delay - there was a holiday in the US end of last week.

Q1) Error #027 Flash Write Error
-I am going to ask the MSP-GANG designers about what state in the tool triggers this error, so that you can know what it means more specifically.

Q2) What noise on the Vcc line can the MSP-GANG detect?
-Are you asking about how short (in time, ms) of a glitch on Vcc the MSP-GANG can detect to flag an error? Are you seeing noise/glitches on your Vcc line, or a Vcc-related error?

    Regards,
    Katie
  • Katie-san,
Thanks a lot for your reply.

Please follow for Q1),I wait for detail information of designers.

    about Q2)
-Are you asking about how short (in time, ms) of a glitch on Vcc the MSP-GANG can detect to flag an error?
Yes,They would like to know a glitch time and glitch level and how many times(If error happen only several times).
They haven't see glitches, but they must check specific for manufacturing.

  • Hi Muramatsu-san,

I have received answers from our MSP-GANG designer.
    Q1): Err 27
This error can be caused by two different things:
1 - firmware for flashing the MCU from RAM was downloaded with an error and the procedure is terminated (wrong values)
2 - programming the flash had a timeout - programming time was much longer than expected with no ACK from the MCU.
In BOTH cases it likely means a communication error of some sort - can you please share all the information about what connections you have between the MSP-GANG and your MSP device, how pins are connected, the schematic of the JTAG/SBW portion of your design so we can see how things are connected, length of the cables used between the MSP and MSP-GANG, how the device is powered during programming (from MSP-GANG or externally) and which pin from the programmer is connected to Vcc, check that your voltage is stable during programming, etc.

    Q2): Vcc stability during programming
The MSP-GANG tests Vcc at startup to make a decision if it should go forward to the programming process. If the Vcc is in the range +/- 0.3V of what is set in the MSP-GANG settings in the GUI, but not below the Vcc min, then process is continued. Otherwise – the process is terminated. I think that this means that if your voltage is bad at the start of programming the MSP-GANG will detect it, but if it is an instability during the programming the MSP-GANG won't necessarily detect it. You need to make sure you have a stable Vcc and that there is not noise on it during programming, but that's something you'll have to take care of if you are externally powering the board.

    Regards,
    Katie
