To MSP432 developers,
an earlier update to IDEs (CCS, IAR EWARM, and Keil) added an MSP432 versioning check that might mis-identify a selected number of current MSP432 silicon as earlier version. These selected MSP432 units, while fully functional and up-to-date, have slightly different device information data that might be mis-detected by the IDE. This mis-diagnosis has been rectified in the most recent IDE release. Updating your IDE to the following latest versions will ensure all MSP432 revisions are correctly identified:
- Code Composer Studio v6.1.2 or later with all updates by 03/29/2016 installed. Download CCS here
- IAR Embedded Workbench for ARMv.7.60 or later. Download IAR EWARM here
- Keil uVision 5 with MSP432 device family pack (DFP) version 2.1.1 or later. Download Keil uVision here
Which IDE versions or updates that issue the mis-diagnosis:
- CCSv6.1.2 with new updates from 02/19/2016
- IAR EARM version 7.50.3
- All Keil uVision5 updates continue to support older version of MSP432 silicon.
How to identify if you are impacted:
- If you have seen the following warning message when debugging these devices in the last 6-12 months
“Warning: Your MSP432P401R material is out of date. For the latest device with additional functionality, please order new samples from www.ti.com/product/msp432p401r”
- Or if you now see the following error message after the most recent IDE update:
“This device is no longer supported. Your MSP432P401R material is out of date. For the latest device with additional functionality, please order new samples from www.ti.com/product/msp432p401r”
