weigh scale design

We are requested by the National food security body to design weigh scales to measure weights of up 1 metric ton  from 10kg. we are also requested to design heavy duty weigh bridge scale that will measure loaded vehicles up to 100tons. anybody with ready to go designs?

Sebastian.

  • That anybody with ready to go designs must be very foolish!
So is the National food security body.
    And ...
  • >anybody with ready to go designs?
You shall approach manufacturers of industrial scales, not this forum.
  • That is how things work in India,
They are churning out so many non-qualified engineers (huge population) but only due to cramming  pass exams.
They end up here on the forum looking pretty comical.

    Short answer:
TI's does have a very precise induction sensor like LDC1000, so place a metal plate on something flexible like rubber and measure
and create a look-up table/formula as it probably will not be linear.

I don't think this is good idea to make weigh scales. Better to use bending or compression load cells as most scales do. Something like this. Sure for 100ton scale you shall have something like 8 to 16 cells of according capacity.

  • I would take a digital bathroom scale, and put in beefed up load cells. Job done.

Guessing by the first name, the OP is not from India. That doesn't mean that other contries can do it the same way, though ...

And for the original problem: how about using an electronic bathroom scale, and a 1:10 lever for range extension (or an US bathroom scale with 1:5 lever ...) ?

  • > how about using an electronic bathroom scale, and a 1:10 lever for range extension
Nice idea! To get 100 ton range multiple scales would be needed and operator with calculator in addition to that.
  • I think you guys missed the point.

The point is to create a scale for the specific propose to help shady wheeling & dealing characters to siphon off public money from starving people through their corrupt government.

The "National Food Security Act" was signed into law on 12 September 2013. And now the "National Food Security body" is asking this Namukolo to "design" a scale? How many people have starve to death since then? Why cannot they just buy a ready made scale. Why not count the sacks of grain or just eye-ball the amount?

In fact, everbody can tell every fancy "legend" here, without any proof. I didn't believe the "National Food Security Body" story for a moment, and this is reflected in my answer ...

My opinion about this topic is probably even more radical, so I avoid getting deeper into it. Just want to remark that "corrupt" seems redundant to me, as it is an inherent property of "governments".

We shall talk about device in question, not reason behind it.  He most probably made it up to impress forum members and increase his chances of getting 100 ton scale design and manufacturing information for free  :)

Oh yes - I have two similiar 'persons' (kids) around here, which try similiar methods to get me doing their homework ...

  • Hi Sebastian, I would suggest you look at TI Designs, our reference design library. www.ti.com/tidesigns For example this might be applicable to your application: http://www.ti.com/tool/TIPD188
