Failed to Load CPU Core Driver

Hello everyone,

I am using IAR Embedded Workbench ARM version 7.70.1.11486 for programming MSP432P401R launchpad. I tried to run the sample code of LED blinking provided in slau574c document. But after clicking on "Download & Debug" it gives Fatal error: Failed to Load the CPU Core Driver Session aborted. The program had compiled successfully.

The message is as follows:

I am using TI-XDS110 onboard debugger and followed the steps which are mentioned in the document.

Use Flash LOader option is selected in Download tab.

Would be great if someone helps me with this, I tried a lot to find out ways of solving it but couldn't do it.

Hi Shree,

Did you run the ti_emupack_setup.exe file (<iar_install>\arm\drivers\ti-xds)?? Please take a look at slau574c chapter 5.

Also which version of the MSP432 LP are you using??

Hello David,

Yeah I did run the ti_emupack_setup.exe file. I installed it in "D" drive in "arm" folder which gets created after installing IAR workbench(I have installed IAR workbench in "D" drive). And as you can see from the last image the "TI Emulation Package installation path" also reflects the same for TI-XDS debugger in project options window.

I am using MSP432P401R.

Hello Shree,

So it seems like you are using the RED Launchpad, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Maybe there is a problem with the board, there are a few things that we can try before confirming this, but it might involve the use of a different IDE (CCS).

Please take a look at section 5 "FAQ" from this document www.ti.com/.../slau597

You can download CCS from here: processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Download_CCS

Please let me know your findings.

I am using the BLACK Launchpad.

Do I still need to download CCS ?

Hello Li,
The problem is still present, actually I am on vacation so have not yet tried what David had asked me to do i.e. run the sample program in CCS. Once I am back I'll be trying that and will post my updates here.
BTW which IDE are you using ?
If it's not CCS maybe you can give it a shot and see whether it works or not.
Please share your results.

Hello Shree,

Happy vacation!
I used IAR7.70.1.Same as yours.
I have not solved this problem using IAR.
I have not used CCS, because its install is a very hard work.
I used Keil. The software can work smothly now.
However it is only a limitted version.

Before installing CCS, Please take a look at section 7 "FAQ - IAR" from this document www.ti.com/.../slau574

I had the same problem, and in my case it was caused by an incorrect emulation package path. I installed it in D:/IAR/drivers, and that was the path I entered in the debugger settings. The correct path is "D:/IAR/drivers/ccs_base".
