MSP-FET430UIF DEBUGGER ISSUE

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F249

Hai...

i am started working on MSP436F249 controller and I am using MSP-FET430UIP debugger to program this chip. while application developing suddenly a high voltage is cumming to my target board controller and controller is damaged at that time debugger also connect to target device. form that time my debugger is not working it shows error message like this

" error connecting to the target, unknown device."

I thought, my debugger also damaged due to high voltage. so i want know is there any way  to know my debugger is working or not?please suggest me.  In case if it is dame, is there any sporting team is available to repair the debugger from TI side or instead of debugger is there any launch pad  is available to program the micro controller (MSP430F249TPMR). if launch pad is available please suggest to me how to i connect my target board to launch pad to program the chip.

please suggest to me how to  i procedure fourthly.

  • Hello Murali,

I believe the MSP Debugger's application note will contain most of the information you are looking for. http://www.ti.com/lit/slau647
The only way to test if you have damaged your debugger, is to try to program a known good board with the device. There is no Launchpad for the MSP430F249 device.

  • hello JH,
thank you for your valuable response. I tried with working board but it shows the same error message. But i find datasheet of my debugger with schematic. By using the schematic i verified the debugger, in that i find TRST pin is short to ground at target pin connector side through the transient voltage suppressors IC( TVS IC-SN75240). Then i replaced that ic with a new one, but again it is showing the same error. May be remaining parts related to this TRST are damaged.

please suggest to me what i have to do right now.
To program the chip Is there any other tool is available in low cost compared to this debugger (MSP-FET430UIF) cost. But i want to know is there is any supporting team is available from TI side to repair the debuggers and if i purchase new debugger it is having any warranty or not.

    Thanks & Regards,
    Murali.Penta
  • Hello Murali,

Please see Table 1- Debug Probes Features and Device Compatibility in the MSP Debuggers Guide linked to above for debuggers that support your device.

From the sound of it, it seems you may have fried the debugger by exceeding voltage specification. If you like you can try our Customer Support Center to see if they can do repairs/replacement/re-orders, but I'm not sure to what extent they can help. Please see the following for Customer Support Center contact information. www.ti.com/.../contact.tsp
