How to write a logical clock and timestamp on the physical layer with cc430?

I'm wondering how can I realize a software logical clock and make timestamps on the packets upon their reception on the physical layer without taking advantage any other RTOS, but with TI's library? Are RTC and interrupts the only way to do that? Can I get arbitrary logical clock frequency from interrupts?
