Could not find MSP-FET430UIF on specified COM port

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSPDS

Hello I am a novice when it comes to this but I am having similar issues. My launchpad works fine on my brother's computer which is running windows 10. However, when I plug it into my newly built machine(also windows 10) and I try to debug I get the "error initializing emulator: Could not find MSP-FET430UIF on specified COM port" . other times I get either "error initializing emulator: no error" or "error initializing emulator: could not communicate with FET". both computers are running code composer v6.1.3. I have also tried v7 and v5 on my new computer and still no luck.

I was able to program the launchpad on my new computer a couple of times but when i try to communicate through UART the LP freezes up.

  • Hello Wayne,

How is the device enumerating in your machine's Device Manager window? It should come up under COM ports as both an Application UART and Debug Interface. Hopefully you are connecting to a USB2.0 port as the FET firmware struggles with USB3.0 systems.  You might need to update the MSP Debug Stack (MSPDS) with the latest driver, Windows 10 is also notorious for not letting users install non-signed drivers: e2e.ti.com/.../452734

What do you mean when you say that the LaunchPad freezes up (assuming MSP-EXP430G2 version)?  What terminal program are you using to communicate with the backchannel UART?  Are you properly sourcing from TI's code examples?

    Regards,
    Ryan
