Suggestion for controller

Hi Everyone,

I am building an application which requires these specifications

1. ADC sampling at least 1 million samples per second

2. Low Power ( Battery powered device )

3. Hardware RTC

4. USB support

I have gone through the plethora of controllers offered by TI, but couldn't find one.

Any suggestion is highly appreciated

Thanks & regards

Farhan

  • Hello Farhan

    A few questions for clairification

    1. What resolution of ADC are you looking for? And till what Maximum sampling rate is your application expecting to run at
    2. When you mention low Power, do you mean that the main application needs to run from battery, or when it is in a low power mode then it requires a coin cell?
    3. USB support for Device, Host and what speed: Full Speed or High Speed?

In general there are the following generic device families: MSP432, TM4C12x and MSP430 device families. Based on the requirement details it would be much easier to provide with a definitive answer.
  • Hi Amit,
    Thanks for your reply

    1. ENOB 12 is good enough
    2. Device will be battery operated, basically a handheld measuring device
    3. USB device will do, any speed is fine ( It's good to have, if not present will do )

But with the first two requirements we require an in built hardware RTC, the device won't be having any internet access it's data will be access via PC and for first time time initialisation we require hardware RTC, since timestamp is critical for application.

    Thanks & regards
  • Hello Frahan

If USB is not a must-have, then MSP432P401R would be the right device in the 32-bit family. It has a ADC14 with a ENOB of 13.2 bits at 1 MSPS. The power consumption is low for battery operation and has an on-chip RTC for time keeping( in both time stamp and RTC counter mode)
  • Hi Amit

Your suggestion have been very helpful.
Sorry for replying late, thanks for your suggestion and that's the controller we have narrowed down.

    Thanks & regards
    Farhan
