MSP430FR2633: Can Captivate device works on the LCD?

Part Number: MSP430FR2633

Hello.

I have a question.

Can Captivate device works on the LCD?

We are studying applications stacked in order of LCD, electrodes and overlay.

Is this possible?
If the answer is no, what is the reason?

Regards,

uchida-k

  • Hello uchida-k,

You are able to use a transparent overlay such as ITO over the LCD, taking into account mechanical considerations covered in the Design Guide's Best Practices section.

  • Hi Ryan,

    Thank you for your reply.

Can I use electrode over the LCD ?

I want to use captivate device as touch panel like iphone.

I'm thinking of using a transparent electrode.

  • Hi uchida-k,

In a sense this is true if the electrode is made of a transparent material such as ITO. However you must keep in mind that the resistivity is high when compared to silver and copper materials. Please review SLAA576 for more information: www.ti.com/.../slaa576a.pdf

Although we have seen trackpad functions successfully implemented with CapTIvate using a mutual capacitive multiplexed square matrix layout, this has not yet been done outside of a standard PCB. Keep in mind that this technology is intended for button and slider/wheel applications so further development will be required to accomplish this task.

    Regards,
    Ryan
