MSP430F449: Uniflash V4.2 installation problem

Part Number: MSP430F449
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET, UNIFLASH

I have been using the old MSP-FET430UIF with Elprotronic FET-Pro programmer software for years, but as the 430UIF is no longer available, I need to upgrade to the new MSP-FET programmer.

This is not supported by Elprotronic, but it looks like the TI UniFlash "stand alone flash tool" should do the job.

A bunch of files download (version 4.2  processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Category:CCS_UniFlash  ), but there is nothing there that looks like a setup file or executable. I feel like this is a stupid question, but am I missing something here, or what?

I have tried downloading V3.4, it has the expected setup file and installs OK - so what is going on with version 4.2?

TIA,

Pete

  • Hi Pete,

The MSP-FET tool is supported by FET-Pro430, what makes you believe otherwise? You can refer to the Code Composer Forum for your Uniflash-specific questions.

  • Hi Ryan,

    Both problems SOLVED, thanks

The Uniflash download off the TI site is missing the .exe extension. Adding this made a world of difference, and allows it to install - not that I need it now.

I didn't think the Elprotronic FET-Pro 430 application supported the MSP FET programmer properly, as it would erase the target, but fail to program or verify (which the old UIF programmer did fine).

What I found elsewhere on this forum is that depending on the layout of the target board, it may be necessary to disconnect JTAG TST (pin 8) from the programmer. This was easy in my case, as the connection is via a pin header.

With pin 8 removed, the old MSP FET430 UIF and the new MSP FET programmers both work fine, and are completely interchangeable. Which will make my field service guy a happy man :-)

    Regards,

    Pete
