MSP430F5438A: LFXT1's crystal frequency tolerance spec

Part Number: MSP430F5438A

Team,

My customer requests the crystal frequency tolerance spec when they use XT1 as Low frequency mode.

Other analog ICs and some MCUs has this kind of spec in ppm, but MSP430 does not have one.

What's the LFXT1's crystal frequency tolerance spec of MSP430F5438A?

Regards,

Ted

  • When XT1 is in bypass mode, it accepts anything between 10 and 50 kHz. While there are no limits specified for crystal oscillator mode, they will be in the same order of magnitude, and in any case wide enough to accept any crystal or resonator with a nominal 32.768 kHz frequency.
  • Hi Ted,

The XT1 oscillator crystal frequency should be 32768 Hz. PPM specifications are detailed in the crystal datasheet but there are no strict limitations in regards to MCU operation. Proper board design and load capacitances should be used to minimize error.

    Regards,
    Ryan
