MSP430F5438A: Clock sources stop in debug mode (IAR extended clock control)

Hi!

I am using the latest IAR workbench 7.10.5 for the MSP430 along with the new MSP-FETFlash Emulator (the black one). IAR WB offers the possibility for an extended clock control (Emulator -> Advanced -> Extended Clock Control), i.e. which clocks shall stop when hitting a breakpoint.

It happens quite often that all clocks stop even though they are not checked. Currently the only change to override this is to check the boxes (then the MSP430 is reset) and the uncheck them again (which again resets the MSP430).

Whose butt has to be kicked to get rid of that bullshit? Is this a problem of the debugger FW or one of IAR? Notably, that did not happen with the old OLIMEX and old IAR versions.

    I am seeing similar behavior with the MSP-FET and CCS v7.3 that does not occur if I use a MSP-FET430UIF, I will contact the Tools team and see if they can provide any insight into the issue.  Please note that responses will be delayed due to the holiday season.  What is your MSP-FET serial number?

    Hi!

    That's not that complicated to be reproduced: Run e.g. a timer from XT1 or DCO via SMCLK and generate a PWM on some output pin. Then take a look if the PWM stops when a breakpoint is hit.

    It happens occasionally; I mainly program with assembler.

    My IDE: IAR Workbench for MSP430 Version 7.11.2,

    I ran PWM code as you said (TA1, in C), and am still not able to replicate this issue after numerous attempts.

    It DOES stop all clocks if I do not press the GO button after adjusting the Advanced Clock Control settings.

    How occaisionally does this happen?
