MSP430F47197: Calibrator Tool with 'SLAA409A' does not run on Win7 or Win10;

Part Number: MSP430F47197
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDM-THREEPHASEMETER-F67641, EVM430-F67641, UNIFLASH, EVM430-F6779, EVM430-F6736

Support,

I get error when using the calibrator tool that comes with the 'SLAA409A - Three-Phase Electronic Watt-Hour Meter' design files.

I tried the calibrator tool that comes with the MSP430i20xx TIDC596 design files BUT the format must be wrong and values are all over the place.

1. how can i get SLAA409A calibrator tool to work under Win7 or Win10?

2. is there a way to reformat the calibrator tool that comes with TIDC596?

Thanks.

Marc

  • Hello Marc,

Can you please post an image of the error? I was able to open the SLAA409A calibration GUI just fine on my PC running Windows 7. Did they configure the correct COM port in the 'calibration-config.xml' file before trying to open the GUI?

  • Hello Marc,

Do you know if the communication indicator goes from Red to Green when they open the GUI and connect it to the EVM? Unfortunately, this is an older design, and I don't have this EVM to run the test on my PC.

  • James,
I think there is a mismatch between the EVM and calibrator tool?
Using the 47197 EVM. We could not find specific software to download with this EVM : www.ti.com/.../EVM430-F47197

    Test: power is active.
NOTE: the LCD on the EVM shows correct values.

    1. using calibrator sw that comes with the TIDM-THREEPHASEMETER-F67641. calibrator runs but values are off.
    www.ti.com/.../tidm-threephasemeter-f67641

    2. using calibrator sw that comes with TIDM-SERVER-PWR-MON-SOFTWARE. calibrator runs but values are off. Same result

To me, they are not talking the same wrt the command/data structures?
    Am i missing something?
  • Hello Marc,

If you're using the EVM430-F47197, I'd recommend using BOTH the source code and the GUI related to this design and NOT those for the EVM430-F67641. I suspect that either the firmware or the GUI itself or both changed between these designs. You can find the source code and GUI at the links below.

  • James,
    Thanks.
Why doesn't this design come with software on ti.com?
I'm not sure he has IAR in order to reprogram the device. Is there a way to change some .config file for the calibrator tool?
  • James,

The slaa409a.zip is what i could not find.
    Thanks.
  • Hello Marc,

I'm not sure why the software isn't linked on the EVM430-F47197 product folder, but I'll see if we can add it. I just did a quick search for SLAA409A and found it (link here, may need to use Firefox browser). Eventually, the customer will need IAR to modify the source code for their development. In the meantime, they could use UniFlash or Elprotronic's FET-Pro430 Lite to program the binary that comes pre-built with the source code. After downloading the .zip file, they can find the binary in the following location: slaa409 > Source > emeter-ng > Debug > Exe > emeter-47197.d43

Do you know why the customer isn't using one of our newer designs/EVMs like the EVM430-F6736 or the EVM430-F6779?

  • James,
Thanks. We'll give it a try.
  • Here's the link to the .zip file directly:

  • James,

No go, we got the same results.  Data correct on LCD but not through configuration GUI.

Do you guys have an MSP430F47147 kit to try this on?  I want to hold off reprogramming as long as possible.

    Thanks,

    Marc

  • Hello Marc,

When you say "hold off reprogramming", are you referring to reprogramming the MSP430F47147 with the original code? If you're using code on this device from the MSP430F67641-based design/project, then this is why you're experiencing an issue. Please program the EVM430-F47147 with the original firmware as mentioned above. As I mentioned earlier, I do not have access to this EVM.
