MSP432E401Y: Launchpad out of box demo problem

Part Number: MSP432E401Y

Using the out of box experience demo instructions from this link In Task4 it indicates on the launchpad's serial port to enter the product id with the pid which is supposed to be shown from the exosite.io 'Solutions' tab.

However after creating the product and clicking the 'allow development devices to connect' does not show any product-id on the exosite like the instructions of the 2nd screenshot indicates.

(Devices, Resources, Services, Content, Logs, Settings shown on left and no ProductId or Endpoint info as shown in the link) ?

So where/how to get the product-id in order to enter it on the launchpad to actually proceed with connecting and the subsequent 'token' steps?

  • Tim,
I will need to confirm with my colleage. Can you confirm that the IP address is acquired?

    Regards,
    Chris
  • Hi Chris,

The out-of-box app doesnt appear to include any way to indicate if it is able to acquire an IP or not, or a ping command.
I did plug it into ethernet and see no reason it couldn't. Here is the help output:

    > help

    Available commands
    ------------------
    help: Display list of commands
    h: alias for help
    ?: alias for help
activate: Get a CIK from exosite
    clear: Clear the display
connect: Tries to establish a connection with exosite.
getmac: Prints the current MAC address.
led: Toggle LEDs. Type "led help" for more info.
proxy: Set or disable a HTTP proxy server.
    token: Enter Token for re-provisioning
    pid: Enter product ID

The Exosite interface has changed since we released the SimpleLink Academy Lab that you are referring to. In the new interface the product-id can be copied by clicking the "ID" icon on the top right corner as shown with the highlighted box in the image below. We will update this ASAP.

The user will be prompted to enter the product id only if the IP address has been acquired. When I re-read the line in the SimpleLink Academy, I see that it is a little confusing. I will request to update that. Also we will update the example in the next release to print the IP address.

Hope this information helps in resolving your issue!

    Thanks,

    Sai

  • Thanks,
I was able to get the ID from the button you indicated, but on the device it doesnt appear to be able to reach the server (nor prompt to enter the pid as was suggested).
So after entering: pid <the id from exosite> I see this:
    > connect
    PIK found in EEPROM ?
This command is supported only during initialization.
    Connected to Exosite server.
    No Token found in EEPROM.

Which I assumed initially before posting, was due to not entering the pid, however there seems to be something else preventing the board from talking to exosite?
  • Hello Tim,

You shouldn't be required to use the "connect" command. All you are required to enter is product ID (which I have covered in my earlier post), as long as you are not behind a proxy server.

The console log should look like below. If the console statements does not look like below, please insert the screen shot of the command terminal.

    Thanks,

    Sai

  • As you can see in my post I also have the 'Connect to the Exosite server' which I would assume means it can communicate, but then indefinite CloudError: Server returned : 502

I've tried connecting the EVK in several locations (office, home etc) with with several of our boards etc and result is the same. Is there any more detail on the meaning of this 502 ?

  • Hello Tim,

"502" is a server error. Doing a search online says that the server is reporting a bad gateway - not sure what that means. I am seeing it for the first time. I tried couple of times last week and did not have any issue connecting to the server.

I am suspecting it might be something to do with your Exosite account or your network set-up.

Is there any way you can capture a wireshark log? Or you could also post on Exosite support (https://support.exosite.com) and they can look up the reason why the server is reporting the error.

    Thanks,
    Sai
  • Hello Tim,

Did you get this resolved with Exosite?

If you have not resolved this issue yet, the SimpleLink Academy has been updated with the latest Exosite UI. Please look at it and let me know if it fixed your issue. The SimpleLink Academy can be found here: dev.ti.com/MSP432E4-SimpleLink-Academy (look for MSP432E4 LaunchPad Out-Of-Box).

    Thanks,
    Sai
  • Please

    1. Mention the solution Meet the MSP432E401Y LaunchPad Development Kit at http://dev.ti.com/tirex/content/simplelink_academy_msp432e4sdk_1_15_00_00/modules/msp432e401y_launchpad_oobe/msp432_launchpad_oobe.html is deprecated.
    2. Provide a direct link to the SimpleLink Academy instead of selecting MSP432E401Y LaunchPad and searching for Out-Of-Box.

  • We moved on to a different sample app- its unfortunate that the 'out of the box' didn't work so well.

  • Hello Tim,

It's unfortunate indeed that the "out of box" did not work and you have moved on.

If you decide to try the out of box again, please review the update "SimpleLink Academy". As mentioned in one of my previous posts my best guess would be that the issue is with the Exosite account set-up. The user interface has changed and the updated "SimpleLink Academy" shows the latest interface. If that does not work, then a capture of the Wireshark log would help us determine why you are getting the 502 error. Exosite support (https://support.exosite.com) can also address the issue, and they might not need the Wireshark log too.

I have tried the same steps in the updated SimpleLink Academy about 2 weeks ago and it was working as expected.

If you don't need any more help on this post then I would like to close it. If you decide to seek more support on this thread, you can post here and it will re-open the thread.

    Thanks for being patient!

    Regards,
    Sai
  • Hello Rei VILO,

The link to the SimpleLink Academy you are asking to be deprecated is for an older version. The latest version is already released. We typically don't use hard links to avoid using older version of the SimpleLink Academy. That's the reason, I am not using hard links here.

    Thanks,
    Sai

    Three comments:

    • The deprecated solution still doesn't show clearly it is deprecated.
    • Why the deprecated solution has a hard link and not the new one?
    • A hard link could point to a "last release" link, and this is updated when a new release shows up.

  • Hello Tim,

If you are still interested, we have found a solution to the issue. It is documented in the following forum post: e2e.ti.com/.../681071

I will mark this post as resolved. Let us know if the solution in the above link does not work.

    Thanks,
    Sai
