MSP430F5418A: IAR Workbench 7+ not connecting with MSP-fet430uif

Part Number: MSP430F5418A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET

Hello,

I have setup the debugger with the workbench, it does connect to my computer, there is power as well.

When i try to downoad and debug, it gives me an error saying:

Fatal error: Device not found (or device not supported)

I am not sure what the problem here is, please help.

Regards,

Rajan

  • Hi Rajan,

First, please note that the MSP-FET430UIF is no longer recommended for new designs. I suggest that you use the MSP-FET instead.

As for your issue, have you checked to make sure that the correct device name is selected in the "Target" tab of the project properties?

    Regards,
    Nathan
  • Thank you for the quick reply. I am only using the MSP-FET430UIF because I have inherited the project from back in 2009 and want to compile it on the device which was fabricated back then too.

The MCU on the device is M430F5418A, I have that selected in the target device. The following connections is what I have made to connect to the target device:

Let me know if you see something wrong with this pin connections.

Also, do I need to externally power this device? If I am not mistaken, the 430 series is low power and the MSP-FET430UIF should be able to power it ? Please let me know if I am mistaken.

Here is the log from IAR:

Please let me know if I am doing something wrong.

    Regards,

    Rajan Joshi

EDIT: the Log screenshot shows a different device since I was experimenting with different devices. I have made the change to the correct device, and the problem still pertains.

  • I was able to resolve the issue.

I had to change the target name and play with some settings in the project options code.

Thank you for the help Nathan
  • That's good to hear. Keep up the good work!
