My customer is using MSP430F5418 and has some questions regarding the bootlader

They are using RS485 Half duplex IC to MCU UUART (Pins 39,40).

Can we use Bootloader to update the firmware using half duplex communication ?
Can we jump to boot loader from the software (Software invoke) ?

If they want to use the built-in bootloader (BSL), they should use the pins listed in Table 6-3 in the datasheet. If they want to use other pins, they'll need to implement a main memory bootloader like MSPBOOT.

According to Section 1.4 in the MSP430™ Flash Device Bootloader (BSL) User's Guide, "the UART protocol has a baud rate is fixed to 9600 baud in half-duplex mode (one sender at a time)".

According to Table 1 in the MSP430™ Flash Device Bootloader (BSL) User's Guide, "calling BSL from software application" is supported by the non-USB and USB F5xx devices.

The customer states:

"we need to burn the CPU by bootloader to MCU UART (Pins 39,40). Can TI provide the source code (C Language) for this?"

Hi Rob,

As I mentioned earlier, if they want to use pins 39 and 40, they'll need to implement MSPBOOT.
