MSP430FR2633: Captivate Sense Tuning, cannot capture delta RED bar

Part Number: MSP430FR2633

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am using MSP430FR2633 for a capative touch pad project. I experienced a strange issue where i am not able to capture the delta value even i can see a some movement on the channel bar chart when a button is press. please refer to the attached pdf: the capacitive pad is consist of 6 capacitive pads which is not a button but a ractangle length of about 25 cm x 10 cm square. 3 of the capacitive bar is smaller in size like 25 cm x 5cm.

When a firm touch on the ch0 which is RX02, i can see the Ch0 bar jumping down from 250 to about 180. but i am not able to see any RED color Delta bar appear. This apply to all the bar. Need help to advice how I am get the delta bar appear on the Channel Bar Chart.

I am using Captivate Design tools 1.60.00.00 which (Capacitive Mode: Self) sensorpad to generate the source code and then import into the CCS 8.2.0.0007. I can see the exactly and identified when Ch0 is touch but no RED colour bar appear. Please refe to the Channel table captured, it show the delta value always show zero even when a touch is detected.

Any advice to improve the tuning so i can see delta value or red bar jumpping when touch?

We can discuss privately if schematic and gerber is required, kindly provide the email address.

Best Regards,

  • i noticed the LTA & count value always equal when pressed on CH 0. why is it so?

  • Hi Poh,

It seems strange. Could you clarify below questions so that I could try to find any issue?
    1. How about press other channels/buttons? The same issue or works well to get a delta value?
    2. Could you show me the screenshot of the ButtonGroupSensor properties->Tuning tab for the tuning parameters, especially for the CH 0?
  • Hi Zhao,

Press other channels, the same issue. all delta values is zero, cannot see the red bar. even when press delta always show 0. Below is the captured when firm press on Channel 0

Below is the button Group sensor properties-> Tuninig tab

    Other setting-> Conversion control:

  • Hi Poh,

Looks strange even the Touch Threshold is 5 as you show, it may lead to the similar issue when the Touch Threshold is too large.

Could you confirm the screenshot is showing the same parameters as running on the MCU? I would recommend you to click "Read" button on the Tuning tab when MCU is connected to CapTIvate Design Center to get the parameters on MCU. You also share the project source code with me to help to check.
  • Hi Wei,

I am using the source code generated by Captivate Design Tools. Did not do any modification to it. I will continue my test tomorrow when i back to office.

  • hi Wei,

    Any update or suggestion?

  • Hi kpk,

Sorry for reply late since I was out of office until this morning.

I downloaded the project you attached, 1731.testing.zip. But it seems not the correct CapTIvate project which miss some source files in folders of captivate related and driverlib. Could you check and re-attach the CCS and CapTIvate Design Center project files so that I could take a checking for your project?

  • Hi Kok,

Please make sure you are using the latest version of CapTIvate Design Center(CDC), which should be v1_70_00_03 now, and recreate a new project to test again. Don’t just import/open the existed CDC project, which created by an old version, in the new CDC.
  • Hi kpk,

Since our expert is supporting your issue offline, I would like to close this thread temporarily by click "TI Thinks Resolved". But you could come back to reply for further feedback.
