MSP430G2553: How much Flash Memory and RAM memory is consumed by the sloa214 sample source?

Hi,

I am planning to use MSP430G2553 in my design for RFID Mifare application. My concern is this part has only 16KB flash and 0.5KB RAM. I want to know the RAM and Flash memory consumption of the sloa214 source code sample to ensure that it will fit in MSP430G2553.

Hi,

Thanks for your question. This project uses 461 bytes of RAM and 11 kB of flash memory.

For future reference, you can access this information by importing the project into CCS, building the project, and then clicking on View -> Memory Allocation, as shown below:

Does utilizing 461 bytes out of 512 bytes affect the performance of MSP430G2553? If not can I use the maximum available RAM without affecting the performance? Please let me know if MSP430G2553 is recommended for this or not?

Hi SKumar,

You're free to use the maximum available RAM on the MSP430G2553 without impacting performance. Therefore, you shouldn't have any issues if you're using the SLOA214 project (461 bytes of RAM) as is. However, if you're adding more code to this project, then you will need to make sure that you do not exceed 512 bytes of RAM or use a different MCU with more memory.
