EVM430-FR6047: How to work with a pulse echo mode (send and receive from the same channel)?

Part Number: EVM430-FR6047

We need a way to generate pulses in PPG and start aquisition of the wave in the same channel, instead of generate the pulse in Channel 0 and acquire the pulse with ADC in Channel 1. This is needed in applications where you need the echo of reflected wave. As reference of application I am sendind a schematics using just one transdutor where the pulse is generated in CH0_OUT ans received in CHO_IN

  • Hello,

By default the USS Library does not offer this functionality for measuring in pulse echo mode. Please let me look into this a little further to see if there are any resources that can help you in modifying the code to realize this acquisition method.

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Hello,

I contacted an engineer on the USS applications team and they informed me of a HW workaround that you can use for enabling pulse echo mode. Instead of connecting one transducer to one channel and another transducer to the other channel, you can connect one transducer to both channels so that you are able to receive on the same transducer that you are transmitting on.

    Matt

  • Hi Matt. We tryed it (like a short circuit). But did not work. It seems that we found the registers that we could use for this issue. We are going to try it today and let you know. And also this workaround maybe we did in a wrong way, we are going to try again.

    Thanks

  • Renato,

I'm looking forward to seeing the results of your second round of testing.

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Hi Matt.

It seems that a short circuit does not work, because the output of PPG (CH1_OUT and CH0_OUT) are connected on the ground by switch SWG0 and SWG1 to make RXTX bias control. We think that some changes on the software needs to be done to open this switch and acquire the wave sent and received in the same channel.

Than we realized that changing receive and sending automatic configuration managed by ASQ to send and receive from the same channel would work. It worked but now we have to manage the BIAS to listen the signal properly (seems now that the wave is coming in a quadratic way. Seems like BIAS is forcing the wave to be always on the top or the bottom). As soon as it works I let you know.

  • Renato,

I'm glad you were able to find a workaround to enable sending and receiving from the same channel. I am going to mark this thread as "TI Thinks Resolved" for now and if you have any further updates please feel free to comment back. If this thread locks throughout the course of your testing you will be able to post a new thread that links to this one.

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Hi Matt.

OK. We could reach a better wave signal but still needs improvement. But I think we found a way. If is interesting for you, I can post once totally solved.

    Thanks

    Renato

  • Renato,

Yes it would be great for me and the rest of the community to learn how you improved the wave signal. Feel free to post back once you've totally solved it.

    Best regards,

    Matt
