Did anyone notice how Jens-Michael Gross got the 100 000th point? :)

I don't know about you all guys but 100k points seem to me like a bit of a landmark. Anyone who's posted that much deserves a bit of a recognition but Jens has posted that much stuff that's actually RELEVANT!! Don't you think that's amazing?

I hope he celebrated the 100k point day.

I think that all of us who have received help from him should chip in and get him a bottle of blue label at least-- that's if he drinks whiskey of course. :)

  • I did not notice, but that is amazing. JMG has helped me numerous times. He is a huge asset to this list.

    Thanks JMG

  • Yeah, I want to add my personal thanks to a guy that's really over the top!

    Thanks, JMG

  • Thanks for all your kind words. It's always a pleasure to see your efforts appreciated :)

Well, someone did notice and I guess this Blog post was delayed until I also crossed the 100k border. Well, I don't think I'll stop now. :)

And yes, I do drink Whisky form time to time, but I prefer single-Malt Scotch or Irish Whisky, like Glenfiddich 21J Gran Reserva Rum Cask Finish or Glenmorangie Signet, even though JW blue label is really good for a blend. But I definitely wouldn't reject a Blue Label 200th Anniversary Cask Strength :) (I doubt there is one left on the market)

  • ...and whysky expert, too... it was obvious, of course... ;-)

  • :D

    Good job JMG.

And....... I have to control a garage door working at 433MHz RF with a MSP430, please give me the final code. Thanks.

    ;)

    Just kidding.

I only have the code to trigger the alarm of the garage of my former co-worker's neighbor. And unfortunately it is PIC-based. (He was a Dork, so it was real fun to startle him) So sorry, no code for you :)

However, before we "made the switch" to MSP, this kind of application was indeed what I was working on.

  • Jens-Michael Gross, I've found your well constructed posts incredibly useful.  Your contribution is inspirational.  Thanks for the help you provide me with.  Even though you frequently respond to my threads, more often than not, I am making use of the undetected benefit of finding an answer from an already existing forum thread that you've contributed to.  This really amplifies the multiplying effect of the forums where you can help for one, and solve for all.  Congratulations on being the first person to hit the 100,000 point milestone!

  • Jens-Michael,

I second, third, fourth, etc. everything that has been said in this thread and the many others that are thanking you for your contributions to our forum.

Everytime that I am helping someone and you bring your expertise to the table, I always learn something new.

    Cannot thank you enough.

  • Jens-Michael,

Might get old hearing this so many times, but thank you for all of your knowledgeable contributions to e2e! You've brought so much useful insight and expertise into our community, and it is definitely (more than) appreciated by everyone.

    Best,

    Keegan

  • Jens-Michael,

Just wanted to add my voice to the legions and thank you for participating and sharing your knowledge with all of us here.  Members like you are what make the E2E forums such a great resource.  I wish we could clone you in some of the other product forums!

    Congratulations and thanks again,

    John

Clearly a man of impeccable taste - as well as a solid engineer!

  • Jens-Michael,

It is obvious how thankful the entire community is on your ongoing support and expertise through these forums.  Reaching the 100k mark is truely a feat and proof of your unmatched contribution to the success of these forums and the support of the community.

    Thanks and Cheers,

    Derek

  • It's really stupid, but I cannot save myself...

Talking about whisky, up in the thread there's a "John Walker"... maybe we can ask him to provide a bottle for JMG... :-)))))))))))))))

    Please, please, please, forgive me...

Talking about whisky, up in the thread there's a "John Walker"...

I noticed it too, but I know there's more than one of this name, because one of them my own creation:
About 14 years ago I created a small program for the GEOS operating system that made an animated desktop icon walking around the screen, whistling the theme from  "The Bridge on the River Kwai". I called this Program 'Johnnie Walker'.
It was the first appearance of an animated desktop icon for GEOS (later, I used this method for the status display of my CD player app for GEOS)

So for me, this name brings up some melancholic reminiscences, rather than alcoholic ones :)

  • I have this theory, you all know the movie "The Fly" ? JMG did the same thing with a MSP430. :)

The amount of knowlegde he's carrying in his head is stunning. Heres to you, Jens-Michael.

Now, knock that Mega barrier :)

  • In the same veins as Stephan, let me join in the love fest by saying that I have long suspected JMG to be a runaway template instantiation process resulting in near infinite number of copies and subsequently gaining sentience/omniscience as a Turing oracle.

    ;)

    Congrats Jens-Michael!

    Tony

  • Jens,

You helped on lots of the non-trivial problems from since almost my first newbie questions on MSP430, and the answers certainly accelerated my pace. Please accept my sincere thanks!

    Matt

  •  Hi Jens, my congrats to your good score but take care of you before did teletransport experiment,  multiple check code before to try also with cat I love too;)

From "The fly": Scientist Andre Delambre (David Hedison) is found dead with his head and arm crushed in a hydraulic press...

    Hey..

I fell a good thing forever for you and also thank for bad language form corrections. May be soon I also need some German improvement and I can plan to meet you or guest you at sea.

  • Congratulations sir.. keep ur helping hand n brain always busy  !!! :)

  • Hey Jens,

Congrats, and thanks for your continuous presence and the help you give us all

    :)

  • Hi htere,

thanks again for all the kind words.

Well, you're not so far off as you migh thtink. I heard rumors of a TI task force that is planning to clone me for the other forums.
However, I prefer to remain a singleton process. Even though it would sometimes be convenient to fork.

  • Congrats!!!   Jens Michael  gross.

  • Hi All,

Since this thread has now been marked as a discussion, I'll use it as an opportunity to toss around an idea for rewarding E2E members.

The E2E help central in FAQ point 5 says:

Since it's still in development I'd like to make a suggestion. There are TI devices that are not available to just anyone. For example LoCosto GSM solution (http://www.ti.com/general/docs/wtbu/wtbuproductcontent.tsp?templateId=6123&navigationId=12772&contentId=30167&DCMP=WTBU&HQS=Other+OT+tcs2315) and OMAP4 and OMAP5 CPUs. Normally they have an availability disclaimer:

    LoCosto said:

    Availability Disclaimer

This product is intended for high-volume wireless OEMs and ODMs and is not available through distributors. If your company meets this description, please contact your TI sales office.

Over last weekend I was approached by some mobile phone network promoter and given a free sim card which I can use for free calls within that network. I immediately had an idea that I could have for instance a small camera sitting somewhere remote (reachable only via mobile phone) and stream live video from it via a V.90 modem utilizing this free phone call within the network. I looked around and found LoCosto. Well I'm neither a high-volume OEM nor an ODM but the LoCosto solution would fit so well with this kind of DIY project.

Hence my suggestion-- It would really really make my day if TI said something like: "Ok, earn X amount of points on E2E and you can have one LoCosto kit." :)

Now I realise that it may not be possible due to business strategy that TI has but I thought there's no harm in asking. Just wondering what others think.

  • Congrats Jens-Michael Gross, for all your contribution to this community.. I do remember the times when I posted to the forum and hoped you would be online to give a reply.. :D

100,000 points on the scoreboard is an impressive achievement and the clarity of your replies (which saved 1000s of engineers) is the most important thing to be cherished at the moment.. :)

(Will be happy to congratulate you on your 200 000 points soon! :) )

I do too :) About half a year ago IIRC.

The points don't just come in. It took me whopping 8000 posts to get there. (the other 20k points are from 'verified answer' tags and a few friendships I accepted - I usually turn requests down from people I had never contact with before)

I don't think I'll reach 200k soon. Maybe in 3 or 4 years. An average of 9 posts per day is really stress for my fingers :)

It seems that I've been a bit pessimistic in my estimation. With this post, only 2 years and two months later, I crossed the 200.000 line.

I have often been asked what I do get in reward fo rmy continued work here. Well, no money. But there have been many other things that I really appreciate.
I think it's time to post some photos from the presents I got for my forum work during the almost 5 years here at E2E.

For winning the 2010 contributor if the year award, I got a lifetime coupon code for the TI eStore MSP430 section, which is still working. Surely a valuable thing (literally). The ATC2011 converence, for which I got an invitation (including free airfare and hotel) was canceled.

Next year, the 2011 contributor of the year award was presented to me in a really special form: A real etched silicon wafer, framed in acryl glass and singned by the TI CEO Rich Templeton. Surely nothing you could buy at the next corner.

I also got a really nice king-size greeting card with notes from many people I knew from the forum - and some I didn't know (yet).

For the 2012 contributor of the year, I had been invited to Dallas. Besides a visit to the famous Southfork Ranch and the new Perot museum of nature and science, there was an official ceremony where numerous awards were given to many TI members. It was an odd feeling being the only non-employee there. On my flight back, I had to pull out this nice crystal block at each security check on the airports (this material blocks x-rays, so they wanted to see what 'invisible' secrets I carry with me.

One year later, I had been invited to Freising, Germany, for winning the 2013 contributor of the year award. Along with this framed certificate

As a special present, I also got this acrylic-framed IC, which was the father of the MSP430 family.

    and this poster

I also got this 'king-kong-sized' birthday card:

There was also lots of promotional material, some t-shirts and polo shirts, pens, candy (yes, with TI logo) and other goodies.

Even though I won' t be around here forever (no, I don't plan to leave, but who knows what will happen tomorrow?), I'll surely remember the trip to Dallas and those other things for the rest of my life.
This, and all the people I did meet here.

Thank you for five great years.
