Need suggestion regarding flashing TM4C1294

Hi all,

After racking my brain with TI documentations, examples and discussion in the forum, I believe that we need a JTAG port to program the micro for the first time (after that, other DFU approaches via various ports can be used).

Am I right on the conclusion?

My design will provide access to the ethernet and USB ports of TM4C1294, is there a way to flash the program in for the first time without JTAG port, such as some competitors like ADI and Atmel micros' default RS232 flashing based on the state of a GPIO pin during power up?

After a power-on-reset, CPU starts exection from ROM. If it sees that the flash iserased (the content at flash address 0x4 is 0xffffffff), CPU will enter the ROM bootloader. It will wait for the activities from one of the following ports: EMAC, I2C, SSI, UART, and USB to start bootloading. You can run LMFlashprogram tool from the host PC. Please refer to the ROM code document for more etails. You can always eras/program Flash via JTAG.

I'd like to try it out with my TM1294 launch pad.

Is there a way from CCS or some utility to totally erase the part so that the content at flash address 0x4 is 0xffffffff?

Once it is erased, I assume we will need to disconnect TM123 from the launch pad so that we can use the ethernet./usb port of TM1294 to try out what you suggested.

You can use LMFlashproram tool to erase the part via JTAG. CCS also has a Flash utility for you erase the Flash.

Since TM1294 launchpad has been programmed before, I don't think LMFlashprogram will work without adding DFU into the project.

I checked CCS folder, and didn't find the flash utility, could you be so kind to show me the file name?

(1) Launch LM Flash Programmer, select the launch pad, then select Flash utilities. You can erase the Flash there.

(2) Lauch CCS. connect to CPU. Select tools, then select on-chip Flash. You can erase the flash there.

Thanks for your instruction, but something must be wrong from my end, for after I install LM Flash Programmer, I can't find any new folder/short cut for it (I am using Windows 7 pro, 32-bit)

Maybe TI can improve the user experience a little by showing the destination folder of LM Flash Programmer during installation :)

It turns out it was under Stellaris folder (I was using Tiva so I didn't check here)

I believe USB and UART could work according to your suggestion, since it is based on direct connection

Ethernet flashing is what I can't figure out how to continue since I don't know the MAC nor the IP address of a fresh 1294
