No build tools!

Can you please post an image of the Red Flag and the exact steps to reproduce the issue?

Secondly, MSP-FET430UIF cannot be used for programming Tiva devices (as I know it). You have option of using Stellaris ICDI, or any other ARM programmer like XDS100, Keil, Segger J-Link.

Hi Amit, thanks for your quick reply. The error flag is as shown below. As for the steps ... I right click on the project name and click on properties, then try to change the Tiva Device Variant under 'General', at which point the error message about 'no build tools ...' appears near the top of the window.

    There is some problem with your attached picture.

    Are you using Code Composer Studio?

    There is a workshop for Tiva Launchpad that you can learn from. Also, elsewhere in the internet there are several tutorials for Tiva Launchpad that you can learn from.

The picture appears like an empty small rectangle. You need to attach the picture using the "Insert Image" tool. Then select the preview tab to ensure others can view the picture.

I notice the list of files doesn't include a main.c file as, for example, msp430 projects do. I know c programs need a main() routine, but I'm not sure this is the reason. I don't think it explains why there are no build tools.

Not only main.c but also the cmd file is also missing which would be used during linker phase. As cb1 once suggested, it always better to start with a known example (lesser pain)

Hi Amrit,

Don't be fooled by the name of the project. I renamed it after importing it from 'usblib' in the TivaWare_C_Series-2.1.0 folder in the TI Resource Explorer tab in CCS. There is rather a paucity of examples to choose from. Perhaps I should instead have imported 'project' from 'examples' and started from there. What do you think?

Hi Kel,

I have done as you suggested and downloaded the workshop pdf file. I'll see if it is of any help. I can't help worrying about the fact that all references to the Tiva are to the later TM4C129 series and not the TM4C123 series. I don't think it should matter, but one wonders why the latter series gets no mention. It doesn't give me a 'warm fuzzy' feeling. Thanks.

When CCS6 was installed I asked that support be included for MSP430 and Tiva devices. I have already downloaded SW-TM4C-2.1.0.12573.exe and run it. However, under Windows->Preferences->...->Compilers there is no ARM compiler there, only MSP430 stuff. So how do I go about getting it? Thanks.

Thanks for that. I now have ARM TI v5.1.8 installed.

I have also imported from the TivaWare_C_Series Resource two projects: the first was usblib from the usblib folder and the second is project from the ..\examples\project folder. Pretty obviously, usblib is not a complete project as it has no main(), and project is incomplete in that it is not usb-capable. I now need to marry the two. Could it be as simple as copying the stuff in the usblib folder to the project folder? Thanks.

It is a library, that is why there is no main().

See, how usblib is used at Tivaware example programs like usb_dev_bulk.

I have one other question, but it is on another matter. The TM4C has a JTAG interface and the MSP-FET430UIF has a JTAG connector. Can I use the MSP-FET to program a TM4C and if not why not? I ask the question here, but if you think it should appear as a separate post I can create a new one. Thanks.

As well as the firmware inside the MSP-FET there is a corresponding Windows MSP430.dll / Linux MSP430.so host library which communicates with the MSP-FET over the USB and the host library only supports MSP430 devices.

    Programming your Tiva microcontroller through JTAG depends on your IDE. If your are using TI CCS, then you need to use XDSV100 based JTAG debugger.

Hi, 

It installed the ARM Compiler for CCS v6 but the same was not reflecting on the compiler list in preferences. Then I updated the ARM Compiler version and it worked.
