Emulators with Isolation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CONTROLSUITE

A couple of options are:
1. Spectrum Digital Optically Isolated Adapter:

2. Signum Systems ADA-ISO-TI14:

3. Signum (JTAGjet) C2000 Emulator with opto isolation:

4. TI has a 14-pin TI JTAG Isolation Adapter "TMDSADP1414-ISO":

5. XDS510 USB Galvanic Emulator:

6. There is a schematic where ISO7240/7242 parts and XDS100 emulator are implemented. You can find the schematic in the HVPFC (controlSUITE):

7. After installing the board specific software for the TMDS1MTRPFCKIT:
C:\TI_F28xxx_SysHW\Multi-Axis-HWdevPkg[R3]
Page 3 of the "multi-AxisDMC-SCH[R3].pdf has the design for the isolated XDS100 emulator.

  • Thanks, Harman!  I was just about to post a request for what you wrote.

I should also add that one can always buy an off-the-shelf USB isolator, like the UH401-2KV from B&B Electronics:

$99 in singles.  Not quite as elegant as building the isolation into the emulator, but it gets the job done just the same.

Now here's a harder question.  Suppose I wanted to build isolation into the JTAG interface between an FT2232 and a Piccolo (Delfino, whatever), like what the ControlStick has.  The timing diagrams that FTDI supplies are pretty sketchy, so it's not easy to tell if my isolators are violating JTAG timing.  I could copy the XDS100 schematic exactly and hope for the best, but I'd feel better if I had the timing diagrams.  Has anyone out there worked out the timing margins of the FT2232-C2000 JTAG interface?
