DRV10983-Q1: DRV10983-Q1 not responding to speed command

Part Number: DRV10983-Q1

Team,

A customer is using DRV10983-Q1 to spin a 24V, 35W motor. They used the same EVM for a 10W motor where everything is fine; but when they switch to this 35W motor, whether they use PWM or Analog motor, device doesn't respond to speed command for PWM <80% - motor will keep spinning at the 80% speed at lower duty cycles. Speed changes a little bit when PWM is between 80% and 100%.

I've attached the GUI setting.

  • Hey Zhao,

Though the Advanced Settings tab wasn't given, I would guess this is related to an incorrectly programmed Kt and Mechanical AVS.

Essentially, the device determines it is unsafe to drop to a lower speed command. The lower speed command will result in a lower V_applied to the phase when the BEMF (which is determined by the programmed Kt) is higher than the low V_applied. This would cause current to flow back into the device. However, the device (Mechanical AVS) stops the speed command from going through. This can be confirmed by comparing the Speed Command and Speed Command Buffer % on the Display tab of the GUI.

Lowering the programmed Kt or disabling Mechancial AVS should allow the device to go to lower speeds.
