Part Number: DRV10983EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: USB2ANY, DRV10983

Hi Team,

Our customer is facing trouble using DRV10983EVM that they always see following error window when trying to access to the device from the GUI.

I found the following post, however, it seems the root cause or the countermeasure is not described here.

Could you please advise us how to solve this issue ?

  • Hey Kawai,

    1) Please describe your test setup, including:
    a) are you using a standby part or sleep part? If the device is a sleep part and is in sleep mode, usb2any communication will not work
    b) Is the DRV10983 powered by Vcc, and if so, what Vcc?
    2) Make sure that the DRV10983 is not damaged by seeing the voltages on Vreg, V3P3, V1P8, and VCP.

    Those are my initial suggestions.

    Sincerely,
    Sanmesh U.
  • Hi Sanmesh-san,

    Thanks for your support.

Customer had tried register access to DRV10983EVM with Windows7 (32bit OS) and Windows10 (64bit OS) using included USB2ANY.
We are not sure which part, standby or sleep mode, is mounted on their EVM. We will update this inoformation when confirmed.
We will also confirm their power suppy voltages. However, they are using the EVM reffering the app note, "DRV109xxEVM Quick Start Guide (Rev. C)".

Q1). If the customer EVM device was sleep type, how can we exit from sleep mode to start communication to the device ? Please tell us the detail procedure.

Q2). If there were no marking to show which part the device is on the board, can we distinguish the part from the device marking, whether there is "Z" or not ?

    Best Regards,
    Kawai
  • 1) The procedure to exit sleep mode is described in "Table 1. Conditions to Enter or Exit Sleep or Standby Condition" of the datasheet ( www.ti.com/.../drv10983.pdf ).
    2) There should be a marking with Z indicating sleep mode.
    3) Also make sure when opening the GUI, you select the device as DRV10983
    4) Confirming the Vcc, Vreg, V3P3, V1P8, and VCP will help indicate if the device is functioning properly.
  • Hi Sanmesh-san,

    Thanks for the information.

We will confirm if the device part number has "Z" or not and the pin voltages.

One question about the EVM is that does DRV10983ZEVM exist ?
It seems there is no way to choose standby part or sleep part through the ordering process at TI.com.
Would it be random when purchased the EVM or is standby part the default ?

EVM which we have is all standby parts (DRV10983/10975).
With this EVM we couldn't reproduce this error which customer had reported.

  • EVM should have all standby parts.
The Z marking should be checked just in case though.
  • Hi Sanmesh-san,

Customer was able to operate the GUI and EVM.
It seems that they were not supplying enough power to the power pin.

Sorry for bothering you with such careless mistake.

However, it was good for me to know about the sleep part information.

Thank you so much for your support!

    Best Regards,
    Kawai
