[FAQ] Driving a Hobby Servo Motor

We drive all kinds of motors including Brushed, Brushless, and Stepper varieties.

What about Servo Motors?

Yes we are can include those as well. A servo like the one below has three input wires but it is not a brushless motor, it takes 5V, GND, and a single PWM signal. This PWM signal varies it's duty cycle which the Servo uses to tune it's exact output shaft position. This position is fixed for a particular duty cycle.

Our Motor Drive devices are very useful to drive the internals of the servo while an MCU or 555 timer can be used to generate a single duty cycle varying PWM for the servo externally.

The DRV8837 or DRV8837C support 5V and include the necessary integrated control for servo logic. The DRV8876 and DRV8874 support 12V if needed for a larger servo.
