Best OS for OMAP4460 Video Capture using OV5640/50: Ubuntu or Android?

Hello!

I need to acquire video using the above mentioned sensors. I am fairly new to Linux, but so far I have been able to successfully run Ubuntu 11.10 and 12.04. Using the media-ctl application, I was able to see the links of the ISS, but using .yavta (test program) I could not receive video. This is most likely due to my lack of understanding of how to utilize the codecs and the Ducati SW properly. I have successfully downloaded the TI PPAs using "apt-get", but I was unable to progress.

The development platform is pandaboard. I tried this repository without success: https://gitorious.org/omap4-v4l2-camera/pages/Home#yavta, but alas it is abaondoned.

Now, after reading many posts here regarding Ducati, it seems that Android (i.e. ICS, JB) is the better way to go. This post http://e2e.ti.com/support/omap/f/849/t/229815.aspx helped me to know that the OV5640/50 sensors are supported by the Android binaries. It seems that obtaining Ducati for Android instead of Ubuntu is much easier with better support.

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance for your time and help! I appreciate it.
