Production availability of OMAP4460

Hello,

I am designing the OMAP4460 based hardware module. With reference to WikiPedia I have found that "On September 26, 2012, Texas Instruments announced that they would wind down their operations in smartphone and tablet oriented OMAP chips and instead focus on embedded platforms. The fate of OMAP therefore remains uncertain. On November 14, 2012, Texas Instruments announced that they would cut 1,700 jobs due to its shift from mobile to embedded platforms."

My planning to order this processor up-to Quarter 1, 2016, what can be the availability and chances of discontinuation of OMAP4 production up-to that time?

Hi Rushi,

You are talking about a long period of time which is filled with uncertainty. It is best for you to contact your nearest TI representative to acquire amount of SoC you need for your production and continue without future support. Or rather migrate to some new device ( more recent design) like the new sitara processors and hope support will be available even after you release your production.

Hi Bayko,

Yes, that is right that it's a long period but support does matter, let's say I purchase enough stock but, if support discontinues, that would be the nightmare.
Migration could be the possibility, but that would require whole new effort of redesigning and re-configuring the application.

What is the certain period for OMAP4460 production?
