OMAP4460 Android 4.1.2 JB dual camera (stereo mode)

Hi,

We are using Variscite DART4460 board with OMAP4460 Processor and have ducati source available (NDA).

In Android, both cameras (OV5640) are working (FRONT and BACK cameras) natively.

OMX provides stereo camera mode (OMX_TI_StereoSensor). How can this mode be selected in Android?

In Ubuntu we could select this mode with a gst-launch gstreamer command.

Best regards,
Damian

  • Hi Damian,

Please refer to the following discussion: http://e2e.ti.com/support/omap/f/849/t/299268.aspx . It resolves the case for dual front camera (stereoscopic mode).

    Best Regards,

    Yordan

  • Hi Damian,

I am also using DART board with OMAP4460, and trying to use two MIPI cams simultaneously.

Did you find out how to select stereo camera mode?

    How did you solve it?

Hope I could you some help, thanks.

    Sanghoon

  • Hi Sanghoon,

Unfortunately I could not solve this problem, since I did not get any useful support from Variscite.

Stereo mode is officially supported with the provided Ubuntu 12.04 image but it is practically useless due to resolution and color defects in the received images.

In the provided Android 4.2.1 image, the stereo mode is not supported at all.

We did get the Ducati source code through an NDA with TI but modifying it is practically impossible without a massive time investment. TI neither Variscite do provide any support on Ducati.

We now are looking for other platforms, which make development with dual cameras possible.

If you wish further information on our progress, feel free to ask.

    Best regards,

    Damian
