residential gateway design

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3352, AM3354, AM4379

Hi all,

I am into development of an interesting product. A next generation residential gateway. I read an article from TI, http://focus.ti.com/pdfs/bcg/next_generation_rg_wp.pdf

It mentioned UR8 Architecture. Which products of TI have got this architecture?

Actually I want to integrate many modules/add-ons on a Universal Single Bus, with base unit as a router with probably ADSL 2+ interface. Maybe PCIe can be the bus architecture I use. Still open to ideas and suggestions.

Few of the modules I want to integrate are 1GEWAN, GE LAN (atleast 3), Router, IAD (4 FXS port), NAS, FEMTO, 10-15 Wifi Ports - 802.11ad, LED Display, HDMI, VOIP etc. LANs to be powered through POE.

Which processor/cpu should I go for? Is there any SOC with major integrated interfaces from TI? or any other vendor? Which Bus interface should I consider?

[I have posted the same in Stellaris forum, didn't know which is the best place to post this kind of questions. Apologies if I have broken any rule]

Thank you and Regards

  • Hi Rahul Shah,

Basically most of the ARM based processors of TI could do the trick.

You can check the overview of OMAP4 & OMAP5 processors (consider the TRMs in bellow links), they have most of the interfaces integrated:
    http://www.ti.com/product/omap4460

    http://www.ti.com/product/omap4430

    http://www.ti.com/product/omap4470

    http://www.ti.com/product/omap5432

You can also check the Sitara processors:

    http://www.ti.com/product/am3352

    http://www.ti.com/product/am3354

    http://www.ti.com/product/am4379

Stellaris could also be a suitable solution (wait for feedback from the experts in that forum).

    Best Regards,

    Yordan
