X11/Wayland Display support

Hi,

From the latest GLSDK release notes for GLSDK: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/OMAP5_GLSDK_6.03.00.01_Release_Notes, I read "Wayland and X11 support only single display. KMS can be used with multiple displays."

What this exactly means? Does it means I can't drive two displays independently with X11/Wayland? Is it possible to run two instances of X11/Wayland and run two different app on two display simultaneously?

Hello vikas, I know its old post. Did you find any solution to display two instance simultaneously.

Hi Nikunj,

I haven't tried it yet. Please see the below post which talks about configuring displays in "Extended Mode". I think this way we can achieve the two display setup somehow. I think running two independent instances of X11/Wayland is not possible due to some DRM limitation.

Yes, vikas, Extended mode configuration may works. Exactly i want to know how to overcome DRM limitation to display two instances. I guess there is no possible way for that with X server. Any way thanks a lot. :)

I suggest you referring to following guides:

These guides are available in OMAP5 GLSDK release. Then download:

wayland - git://anongit.freedesktop.org/wayland/wayland;protocol=git

weston - git://anongit.freedesktop.org/wayland/weston;protocol=git

Typically, hardware enabling includes mode setting/display and EGL/GLES2. On top of that Wayland needs a way to share buffers efficiently between processes. There are two sides to that, the client side and the server side.

xrandr is an official configuration utility to the RandR X Window System extension. See the examples in this link: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/xrandr
