problem with ti-89 (no titanium)

my calculator does not resolve properly the inequalities of the second degree
me give an example: 2x ^ 2 + 5x + 3> 0 the right result is x <-3/2 vx> -1

well, why my calculator shows as a result:(x *(2x + 5))/ 2> -3/2 why ??????

helpppp,please!!!!

  • Nico,

    Your ti-89 calculator shows a result that is an equivalent of your original equation:

    (x*(2x+5))/2>-3/2

    (2x^2+5x)/2>-3/2

    2x^2+5x>-3

    2x^2+5x+3>0  ->original inequality

    Thus the issue is not that this is a wrong answer but rather that the calculator rewrites the equation instead of solving it.

    Please refer to your manual on the proper use of the ti-89 inequality function.

  • I can't understand why not solve it, I do the exact same operation with ti89 titanium and gives me the result immediately ... you would know help me?
