DRV2625EVM-CT: How to use blaking external LRA on DRV2625-CT EVM

Part Number: DRV2625EVM-CT
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV2625

Hello support team,

Customer would like to ealuate blaking mode on Haptics Control Console for external LRA and DRV2625-CT. They connect external LRA and try to use Haptics Control Console, as same as onboard LRA, however, HCC can't work. Could you tell me how to use blaking mode for external LRA?

Click AUTO_BRK_OL, however, waveform does not change.

Thanks,

Koji Ikeda

  • Hey Koji-san,

It doesn't make a difference if the customer is using the onboard LRA or an external LRA, the output waveform will be the same. If they are using an external LRA, ensure that jumpers J8 and J9 are removed.

    What waveform are they using?

I recommend using the Waveform Sequence in to play waveform "24 Sharp Tick 1 - 100%" but it doesn't matter which waveform is chosen. Ensure that the LRA is set to open loop and that AUTO_BRK_OL is selected. In the default state, the AUTO_BRK_OL is not selected. The actuator will need to be calibrated to use automatic breaking for open loop.

It would be helpful if you provide more details on why HCC is not working for them.

  • Hello Micah-san,

Thank you very much for your support.

Let me update. They can controll external LRA by using Haptics Control Console, however, they can't evaluate blaking. Could you tell me how to evaluate blaking?

    Their procedure is,

*Connect external LRA and remove jumper

*The following GUI setting and click AUTO_BRK_OL on/off. However there is no change on waveform.

    Thanks,

    Koji Ikeda

  • Koji-san,

Are they measuring the output with an oscilloscope on OUT+ and OUT-?

Ask them to first calibrate the LRA. This can be done in the "Auto Calibration" selection in the Work Mode drop down list. Which waveform are they using to test this? They will not notice a difference if they use Real Time Playback mode.

Also, try using the on-board actuator (by installing jumpers J8 and J9).
  • Micab-san,

Thank you very much for your support. I will try to confirm Auto calibration to customer.

They can evalute on-board LRA properly. They would like to evaluate with sine wave around 250kHz +/-3V and blaking.

Do you have any guideline when they use external LRA? Application note would be helpful to understand.

    Thanks,

    Koji Ikeda

  • Koji-san,

How are they generating the signal? For any questions regarding the operation of haptic control console, the user guide is a good place to start.

The only difference with an external LRA is that the output is routed to the external LRA instead of the on-board LRA. So when using an external LRA:

    1. Remove jumpers J8 and J9 which disconnects the on-board actuators from the DRV2625.

    2. Attach the positive and negative leads of the actuator to the green OUT terminal block keeping in mind polarity.

    3. Screw down the terminal block to secure the actuator leads. Use the green terminal block when connecting an external actuator. The OUT+ and OUT– test points have low-pass filters and should only be used for oscilloscope and bench measurements.
