DRV2604: Question for LRA Driver about DRV2604 & TAS2557

Part Number: DRV2604
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV2605, TAS2557, DRV2605L, DRV2624, DRV2625, , TAS2560

Hi Haptics team

I would like to have information on drivers for LRA.
I have two questions.

(1)
We are considering using DRV2604 as a driver for LRA.
DRV2604 is described as "Internal RAM for Customized Waveforms" and I think that it meets my requirement specification.
However, when DRV2604 is used, License fee is not included from Immersion,
When using that Wave Form, does it have to pay the License fee?

For example, if I use own Waveform(near the Immersion Wave form) with DRV2604,
If it conflicts with Immersion License, will License fee occur separately?

DRV2605 does not have internal RAM, but internal ROM is built in,
If I use DRV2605 then I can use "Immersion Wave Form" without paying it separately.

reference:
"If a customer is interested in licensing Immersion's technology and IP via TI,
please recommend the DRV2605 L (or DRV2605).
None of TI's other haptic drivers carry any Immersion IP licensing.

(2)
We are considering using TAS2557 as a driver for LRA.
According to the document I got, there is a statement "Use RAM memory on TAS 2557 to implement waveform storage".
We recognize that we can store the desired waveform data for LRA and generate vibration via LRA, is it correct?
I can't find out the description of "RAM Memory" in the TAS2557 data sheet (slasec2a.pdf).
Please tell me if you have details.

If you have any information then please let me know.

Best Regards

Shing

  • Hi Shing,

Thank you for posting to our forum.
    1. If you use DRV2604/DRV2604L/DRV2624, then you will not pay an Immersion license fee through TI. You can choose to pay Immersion directly, but this decision is up to the customer. If you use DRV2605/DRV2605L/DRV2625, then you will have 123 Immersion licensed waveforms at your disposal. The Immersion license fee will be included in the price of the IC. (DRV2624/25 is our newest and most robust solution, so I urge you to consider it.)
    2. We are developing a new PurePath Console 3 (PPC3) GUI to implement the waveform storage in the TAS2557. We are nearly finished with the TAS2560 version and will release it shortly. The TAS2560 used the processor or computer to send waveforms via I2S. The TAS2557 will store the waveforms in internal memory. I will reach out to you so that we can share the new PPC3 information once it is released.
  • Hi
    Kelly Grifin-san.
Thank you very much for your kindly reply.

Please let me know then "PPC3 GUI" for "LRA wave form" has released.

    Best regards
    Shing
  • Hi Shing,

I will reach out via email in order to let you know when the PPC3 program is ready.
