DRV2700EVM: versus DRV2700EVM-HV500

Part Number: DRV2700EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV2700, ,

Can anyone help me decide which unit would be better to buy. Apart from a higher output voltage, they don't seem to be that dissimilar. Why would I want one rather than the other. To confuse matters more, the more expensive one has lower output voltage. Thanks. Harry.

  • Hi Halo,

The DRV2700 was designed for two main configurations which are Boost + Amplifier mode and Flyback mode. DRV2700EVM uses the boost + amplifier mode, you can refer the Boost + Amplifier mode section in the amplifier's datasheet to find further information about this mode.
DRV2700EVM-HV500 uses the flyback mode, so you can refer the Flyback mode section in the amplifier's datasheet to find further information about this mode.

  • Thanks for your reply, Jose. Ultimately, what I want is to select the EVM that can drive a given piezo element (C=1uF) at the highest frequency for vout=100V. Given that output voltage is not my primary concern, I suspect it is true to say that neither EVM is better than the other. If that is true, then I should probably select based on which is more versatile. Any comments? Harry.

  • Hi Harry,

I recommend you to select the DRV2700EVM as your application doesn't need very high voltage. You can refer the figure 9-12 to find the Gain Bandwidth with C=1uF under different conditions. This will help you to observe the piezo behavior at different frequencies.
    I hope this helps you.
