TX-SDK-V2

I have just  received my TX-SDK-V2 eval kit. How do I get the Windows 8.1 software to operate eval kit.?

  • Hello Dennis,

I've run the TX-SDK-V2 evaluation kit with Virtual XP download / install on a Windows 7 machine. I've not tried the Windows 8 operating system and I'm not sure if it has a Virtual XP feature or not? When I research this, here is what I found:

    http://www.howtogeek.com/171395/how-to-get-windows-xp-mode-on-windows-8/

    http://lifehacker.com/5965889/how-to-run-windows-xp-for-free-in-windows-8

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/hyper-v-run-virtual-machines

Is this something you can research and find out?

    Regards,

    Hooman

  • Hello Hooman,

    Thanks for the quick reply.

First, I need to find and get the TX-SDK-V2 evaluation software. Can you post a link for the -V2 software?

Second, I understand your point about xp/win7/win8 virtual machine operation. I will try to get the SW to work using the virtual machine links links and post my results.

    Thanks,

    Dennis

  • Hi Dennis,

The software link (zip file) is on the TX-SDK-V2 web page, repeated here:

  • Hello Hooman,

I have downloaded all the SW from the link you gave me (thank you).

I tried to install on Windows 8.1 machine. Not successful - USB driver problem which could be the XP virtual machine issue that you mentioned.

So, then I tried to install on a known good Win XP machine. Not successful. USB driver install problem. The "Opal Kelly Module USB Installation" (user's guide section 2.2) Step 5 starts but never completes! The machine is really locked up - can't Cancel or Ctrl-Alt-Del. I tried this install several times on the XP machine. I killed all other processes and disabled firewall and Virus scans before install. Still no good. There are no error or warning messages.

BTW: It would be ok if it only runs on XP machine - but I can't get that working.

What's going on? Can you Help?

    Dennis

  • Hi Dennis,

I'm sorry that things are not working smoothly yet. Hopefully we can resolve them.

    Here are some comments:

    1. Windows 7: The TX-SDK-V2 installs / runs-well on my Windows 7 machine. I don't have a Windows 8 machine to test with. I was wrong previously when I said you must have Windows XP to install (Windows 7 also works- unfortunately, I don't have any information on Windows 8)

    2. Virtual Windows XP: If  I try the installation on the same Windows 7 machine (under Virtual XP), I get the following message:

Do you have ".NET Framework version 3.5" installed on your Windows XP machine? You can download that from Microsoft. However, I cannot test it or install .NET Framework on my machine because my Virtual XP machine is not connected to the internet (due to corporate policy issues).

Can you please try and let me know.

    Please let me know.

    Regards,

    Hooman

  • Hooman,

I have fully installed the TX-SDK-V2 software on my Win8.1 machine. There are a few issues that other users should be aware of when installing the Opal USB driver:

Important Installation steps in the order that worked for me:

Install the front panel software - Follow instructions Section 2.1 of users manual. Do not perform section 2.2!

Enable .Net Framework 3.5 - not sure if this was absolutely necessary but I followed your suggestion. The procedure is described here:  http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh506443%28v=vs.110%29.aspx

Disable Windows Digital Signature Verification - this must be done. MS has really gone out of the way to make this PITA. I could not start the following procedure normally (as stated). I had to turn off the guest account login and start the procedure in safe mode. Safe mode is most reliably invoked by <Windows>+'R", typing 'msconfig.exe', setting boot parameters to 'Safe Mode', and then restarting the machine. I used the following procedure when in safe mode:    http://www.howtogeek.com/167723/how-to-disable-driver-signature-verification-on-64-bit-windows-8.1-so-that-you-can-install-unsigned-drivers/

Connect the Opal Kelly USB module to the PC - see users guide Sect. 2.2 step 1. There was no response to this by my machine. Do not do any further steps from sect 2.2! (because of Win8.1).

Install Opal Kelly USB drivers - The drivers will not be automatically found by Win8.1. So, invoke Control Panel->System->Device Manager.  Find and select Opal Kelly XEM3001v2. Then click on update driver and browse. Set the location to be C:\Program Files (x86)\Opal Kelly\FrontPanel\Driver and then hit next and finish the installation.

Invoke TI ultrasound tools and test USB - click "Connect"  and observe good connect status.

Restart PC - make sure that PC will restart in normal mode - not safe mode!

MS Win8.1 driver security strategy causes this.

TI should publish the TX-SDK-V2 installation file(s) structure and location.

  • Hi Dennis,

Glad to see you got the TX-SDK-V2 software to install and run successfully on Windows 8. And thanks much for detailing your findings / experience for everybody's else's benefit.

I will keep a record of your findings and document these inside the Tx-SDK-V2 (and TX-SDK-V1) documentation once Texas Instruments migrates to the Windows 8 platform where I can verify each and every step.

    Thanks again.

    Hooman
