Hi , I am using TMP006 temperature sensor in my product. The product is going to be used to measure the temperature of Solar panels. I have an problem that this temperature sensor should be mounted to housing and only wires or cable can travel to the main board as it is far from the unit housing. But as we know this is just an IC we cannot mount it directly to Enclosure. Is there any option available other than using a seperate PCB for this which we want to avoid. Please provide the design notes if possible.
Big question is, How it is possible to mount this sensor to the panel??
Thanks Hem
Hello Hem,
Thank you for your interest in the TMP006.
For the TMP006 to function properly, it must be installed on a PCB which follows our recommended layout. Not only a means by which to mount the device, the PCB is critical for providing a stable thermal environment with the thermal time constants required for accurate performance. Unfortunately I don't see a way around this requirement.
What you could do is create a very small PCB which is just large enough for our recommended layout (only 300mil x 300mil), a decoupling capacitor, a connector and some screw holes for mounting. Total board size of 300mil x 500 mil should be easy to accomplish, and that's pretty tiny.
Also, see this thread for more information about using the TMP006 to measure solar panel temperature: http://e2e.ti.com/support/other_analog/temperature_sensors/f/243/t/164478.aspx
