Hi,

We need urgently driver for TSC2017, particularly, which register should be written first to enable subsequent reading?

We met some problems:

1. could read Y position (C₃C₂C₁C₀=1101), but could not read X position (C₃C₂C₁C₀=1100)

I believe TI must have such driver. Timely help is deeply appreciated!

Paul,

Pls ensure you are using Windows XP for loading TSC2017 driver. It is not compatible with Windows 7. Our Apps team will review your request and respond via E2E forum.

Do you mean drivers for "TSC2017EVM and TSC2017EVM-PDK"?

I actually found ftp://ftp.ti.com/pub/evm-pdk/TSC2017/ in a post by Wendy Fang, and have downloaded and installed

there on Windows 7 (64bit). Do you mean any of the versions must be installed on XP?

We actually don't have the EVM but only TSC2017 soldered on our customized board. Could you provide the most straightforward C code driver to make the IC operating?

Hi Paul,

I'm Andy from AIP Touch Team. I received your email, looking for the Linux driver for TSC2017. We don't have the exact Linux driver for TSC2017 right now. However, I can send you the link to the Linux driver for TSC2007, which is very similar to TSC2017 if you look at the datasheets of these two chips. What you need to do is to modify this driver, then you will be able to intergrate TSC2017 into your OMAP platform.

Dear Andy,

I have looked through datasheet of TSC2007. The only conspicuous difference I spotted is that TSC2007 has A1 and A0 address bits allowing four devices to be installed on a single board, whereas TSC2007 has only A0, and A1’s position replaced by RESETn pin.

Are the two otherwise identical in all internal architecture?

Hi Paul,

If you look at the first page of the datasheet of TSC2017, you will find that TSC2017 is TSC2003/TSC2007 Compatible. I think that from the point of view of a firmware / software developer, you can consider the internal architecture of TSC2017 and TSC2007 are almost the same. TSC2017 offers more opitions to reset the chip, such as POR, software reset and hardware reset.

Dear Andy,

I modified the code of TSC2007 code on my platform, and as the result shows:

1. Y and Z1, Z2 reads always return non-zero data.

2. X read never succeeded.

I have doubled checked and confirm that the electrical connections X+ X- Y+ Y- are all well.

Hi Paul,

Is it possible for you to post the TSC2017 related circuits? Besides, I suggest that you capture the I2C commincations waveforms using a digitial analyzer so we can examine the timing carefully to find out the root cause easily.

Hi Paul,

Here are my suggestions:

1) If you enable the RESET pin of TSC2017, it is bettter to reset the TSC2017 by using hardware reset before reading any data via I2C. I don't think doing this will solve your issue, but it would at least make it much easier for you to debug.

2) If you are debuging the Linux driver, try to output all the X, Y, Z values to some terminal by inserting some printk lines in the driver.

3) Press FIRMLY the touch panel, then try to watch th X, Y, Z values dumped in the terminal. Check whether you get very similar X, Y values at the same finger locations.

4) The waveforms seem to be right. Check whether you always get the zero X values at quite different finger locations.
