Resistive Parameter of TSC2006

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TSC2006

Dear Sir,

My customer want to know that are there resistive parameters could fine tune TSC2006 sensitivity in WinCE driver. Their as below. If their circuit need modify, please kindly let us know.

Thanks

  • Hi James,

Could you elaborate on this sensitivity issue? What exactly is the customer complaining about?

  • Hi Andy,
Thanks for reply. My customer request as below.

They wants to improve the touch sensitive and then he think that should be a sensitive parameter who can adjust by himself. His end user might take a normal glass gloves to touch the resistive touch panel. Thus, he has to adjust the parameter to be more sensitive if it is possible. Would you please teach us whether TI driver source has this parameter support or not? Please also teach us how to adjust it if it is possible.

    Thank you.

  • Hi James,

In my perspective, the sensitivity is mostly determined by the physics of the resistive touch panels the customer is using now. Basically if there is no stable contact of the two ITO layers in the touch panel, the TSC2006 will NEVER start processing any data by itself. Therefore, if the touch panel is not easily bent (no stable contact) when the glass gloves are used, the TSC2006 can do nothing to change that. I suggest this customer first confirm that whether the touch panel in their project is properly chosen. If not, to try a different model will be the most effective solution.

  • If the proper touch panel is confirmed, I would suggest the customer try to increase the report rate so that the sensitivity might be improved. I can comment more on that if necessary.

  • Hi Andy,

Current Touch panel can't be changed and it is working well when users touch it by finger or touch pen, but it is not sensitive if they take gloves on hands and then touch it, while they have to press more heavier for touch works. Customer's experience for their other panel PCs with touch screen and controller can be adjusted sensitive parameter to increase more sensitive. Thus, they want to know whether TSC2006 has the similar sensitive parameter and driver to do it.
    Thank you.

  • Hi James,

As I clarified before, if this sensitivity issue is caused by the loose contact of the two ITO layers on top and bottom sides,  there is nothing that the TSC2006 could do to improve that.  Something that can be done by changing the internal parameters is to lower the latency. Basically latency is the delay (usually measured in milliseconds) between the moment a touch is initiated and the moment the effect of that touch becomes detectable.

In addition, if the customer is calculating the pressure value based on the data from the TSC2006 in their WinCE driver to determine whether a valid touch is present on the touch panel, I would suggest they tune this threshold value so that a touch with less pressure could still trigger a valid touch event.
