ADS7845EVM-PDK: When the ADS7845EVM is connected to the USB-Modevm Motherboard, the device is not recognized by a Windows 7 64 bit machine.

Part Number: ADS7845EVM-PDK

Good day,

I am currently working with the ADS7845EVM 5-wire Touchscreen Controller. I am currently having problems on getting the usb device recognized on the Windows 7 (64-bit) PC.

> I tried checking all the jumpers and they are all connected properly as indicated on their datasheets.

Daughterboard ADS7845: http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sbau122/sbau122.pdf

Motherboard TAS1020B/USB-MODEVM: http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slaa388a/slaa388a.pdf

Here are the issues I have found:

> USB LED (D2) is off when connected to the PC.

> With the daughterboard connected, the device is not recognized by the PC and the LED indicator (D2) for the USB is off.

> But when connecting only the motherboard without the daughter board, the PC is able to detect the board as a USB device. However instead of displaying it as an NI-VISA usb device, it says that the driver was not installed correctly and that it couldn't find any drivers for the device. The USB LED is also ON. Inline with this I also tried connecting the daughter board with its Jumper 3 (JMP3) disconnected, which I think should not be done since the firmware for the touch controller is in the said eeprom defeating the purpose.

> I have also installed the included software following all the instructions in the datasheet. I only installed the USB component of the software as said in page 7 of the ADS7845 datasheet.

> The included NI/labview software also displays this error when run:

Error -1073807346 occurred at C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\ADS7845EVM\ADS7845EVM.exe\VISA Get USB Interrupt Data.vi

Possible reason(s):

VISA: (Hex 0xBFFF000E) The given session or object reference is invalid.

Here are my questions:

1. Are there any drivers for the touch controller or the motherboard for a windows system?

2. I checked all the jumpers and they are all in the right positions from the datasheet. I think one of the possible reasons is that the two eeproms (1 on the touch controller module and one on the usb-modevm) are conflicting with each other. But, then again I'm not really sure. Are there missing instructions regarding the jumper and switch configurations in the datasheet?

Thank you for your help :)

  • Albert,

We will look into your request and get back with you soon.

    Thanks,
  • Albert,

I think the issue is related to the installation of the driver: basically you have to setup your PC to recognize the ADS7845EVM device. Suggest you go to the Device Manager in your PC to check if the ADS7845EVM device driver has been installed properly or not. If not or your PC recognized it as something else rather than "ADS7845EVM" (which is usually the case if you got such an error message when running ADS7845EVM-PDK SW), select Update Driver Software... and redirect your PC into the correct folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\ADS7845EVM\) with ADS7845*.inf file and your PC should install it.

Let us know if this goes through.

    Thanks,
    Vishy
