TPS51116: TPS51116 power for DDR4 reference schematic

Hi Team,

We are penetrate our TPS51116 in my customer side for DDR4 power supply, do we have reference schematic for powering DDR4 for TPS51116? Conditions as below:

VIN=12V, V5IN=5V, VDDQ=1.2V, VTT=0.75V, IVTT=3A

BTW, another question is that TPS51116 has dcap mode and current mode, which mode will be better for powering DDR4? And Why?

  • Hi Sulyn,

    In DDR4 application, VTT is 0.6V, not 0.75V.
    I would suggest current mode because it can use all ceramic cap for VDDQ rail.

    The DDR3 reference design is availabe on datasheet.
    By change resistor divider connected to VDDQSET pin, VDDQ can be changed to 1.2V.

    Hi Sulyn,

    Compared to current mode, DCAP has faster loop responsible. That's the benefit of DCAP mode.
    But DCAP mode has to use large ESR output cap, that's its drawback.
