BQ27542-G1: After successful completion of Learning cycle Update status is 05 and not able to export Data Memory file

Part Number: BQ27542-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, , GPCRA0

Hi,

I have successfully completed the Learning cycle for 2600 mAh battery.

But in Data Memory "Update Status = 05" only. According to document it suppose to be 06.

And i am not able to export the Data Memory File.

Please find the attached images and help me.

Thanks,

Basavaraju

  • Hi Basavaraju.
Can You issue run one more discharge ccyle , i.e charge, rest and discharge to see if the update status will get to 06?
    thanks

  • Hi Onyx,

    Thanks for your reply.

I installed the latest version 1.3.80 Battery Management Studio, but same result.

Learning cycle completed, but Update Status is 05 and getting error during Data Memory Export.

As per your suggestion i will run one more cycle and let you know.

    Thanks,

    Basavaraju

  • Hi Onyx,
I did discharge cycle (Charge, relax, discharge) on top of successful learning cycle.
But Update Status is still 05 and getting same error for Data Memory Export.
Please help me, GG file generation is in high priority now.
    Thanks,
    Basavaraju
  • Hi Basvaraju

If you close bqstudio and then restart it, can you try using the export button gg file button to extract the gg. Also, for mass production it is not the gg file that is to be used. it is the bqfs or dffs file.

Also, do you have a log file for review. The gg file is needed if you are able to exract it.

    thanks

  • Hi Onyx,

One clarification, if i close and restart the bqstudio will it retain the Data Memory values?

Any reason why Update Status not updating to 06?

I tried "Auto Export" option in Data Memory it works, but during learning cycle it is not working.

    Thanks,

    Basavaraju

  • Yes, the gauge will retain the data memory values. Can you attach the gg file you extracted after your test and the gg file you started with so i see what your set your paramters to and see if the resistance tables updated.

The reason why update status tends to be stuck in 05 is likely that the rupdis or Rdis ( not sure what it is on this guage) is getting set. That means the gauge is likely calculating a negative resistance value which is usually due to a mismatch of the chem id and the cell voltage profile or use of too high discharge current. What discharge current did you use? C/7? I would recommend trying out a different chem id that came up as a close match for your cell.. max dod error with the gpc chem tool has to be less than 3% to be seen as a close match.

    thanks

  • Hi Onyx,

Please find the attached gg files (default_bq27542-G1_1000 programmed before Learning cycle and bq27542G1_new_2600 extracted after learning cycle).

Currently I am discharging with 450 mA current.

Chem ID: 132 with deviation % :2.82 was the only close match found in GPS tool report. In Battery Management Studio 132 represents LG - custom laminate3 (1200 mAh), LiCo02/carbon-6, -20C, OCV refined.

In forum i checked before using Chem Id 132, Kang Kang suggested to go ahead with 132 as The Chem Id model is capacity independent.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Basavaraju,
What you attached isn't the gg file but the srec. Can you pls attach the gg file?

I fear that chem id 132 is really cutting it close to the threshold which is 3% and might be the reason you are having learning failing. IF you still have learning fail, i would suggest using our tool gpcra0 http://www.ti.com/tool/GPCRA0 to create your golden file.

    thanks

  • Hi Onyx,

As you suggested i did one more battery charging cycle and uploaded log to GPC tool.

This time GPC tool report suggests Chem ID: 159.

Best chemical ID : 159 Best chemical ID max. deviation, % : 1.68

In bqStudio this chem id there are 3 entries as shown in attached images.

I feel, Sanyo with 2200 mAh is better because out battery is 2600 mAh. Let me know your suggestion on this.

I will perform a learning cycle with new Chem Id 159 and update you.

    Thanks,

    Basavaraju

  • Hi Basavaraju,
The chem id is the same irrespective of what battery describes them. The gauge learns the resistance. So you can use any one of them.
    thanks
