[FAQ] Where can I find details regarding Power over Ethernet (PoE) specification IEEE 802.3bt?

Part Number: TPS2372

Hi Team,

Customer want to see the specification of 802.3bt. since we already had the bt ready chips, Can you please support  this document. thanks.

  • *2/1/19 UPDATE* The IEEE802.3bt standard was published today!  You can download the new standard here: https://standards.ieee.org/standard/802_3bt-2018.html. As a reminder, members of the IEEE802.3bt working group get free access immediately.  Everyone else has to pay for it within the first 6 months (cost = $194, $155 if IEEE member), after which it is free to everyone.

    Hello Yue Tang.

    Unfortunately, only active members of the IEEE committee can receive advanced copies of the standard. The general public needs to await the following milestones:

    9/27/18: Official IEEE802.3bt approval expected
    ~3-4 months later: IEEE802.3bt published and available online
    ~6-9 months later: Ethernet Alliance, Type 3 and 4 (Classes 5-8), PoE Logo licensing available (TI is an active member defining this test program)

    For now, we suggest the following tools and resources for our customers who are wishing to move forward with their designs:

    * IEEE802.3bt Training Portal: training.ti.com/power-over-ethernet-getting-started-new-standard
    * Whitepaper, "Overview of the 802.3bt Power over Ethernet Standard": ethernetalliance.org/.../WP_EA_Overview8023bt_FINAL.pdf
    * Blog, "The new PoE standard: It’s almost here": e2e.ti.com/.../the-new-poe-standard-it-s-almost-here

    If after reviewing these resources, the customer has more questions, we are here to support them!

    Thank you in your interest in PoE products from Texas Instruments,
