UCC37321: UCC37321, UCC37322 max "in" pin voltage

Part Number: UCC37321
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC5390

Dear TI experts,

I want to make 2x ucc37321 being in parallel that is connected directly to eachother pin for pin  in order to enlarge the output current , Is that ok ?

Thanks,

John

  • Hi John,

Due to potential mismatches between ICs, this is not recommended.

If you can explain a little more about what you are trying to do, we can help you find a solution.
  • Hi John,

It's been a while since we've heard from you, so we must assume you've resolved your issue.

If not, let us know, and we will work with you to resolve it.
  • Hi Don Dapkus,

    Thanks for your supports!

I have not resolved the issues . For my concern, I want to get a 15A or more current's mosfet driver that is for driving a gate- drive transformer, then to drive some big power IGBT or mosfet via the transformer.

    Thanks,

    John
  • Hi John,

It's a little different direction, but you could eliminate your gate drive transformer and drive the gate directly with one of our isolated gate drivers. The UCC5390 has 17 A of typical gate drive current, so it sounds like it would be perfect for you. Take a look and let me know your thoughts.
  • Hi Don Dapkus,

Thanks for your recommending, I reviewed the new chip ucc5390 which is a 15A isolation gate driver with one channel in which the 15A current is perfect ,but the output channel is too little for my design, I hope the gate driver to drive 8~10 x mosfet in same time , so i think the gate drive transformer is my first choice based on the cost and actual design.

    Best regards,
    John
  • Hi John,

My name is Mamadou Diallo, I am an applications engineer in the high power drivers group.

Have considered using UCC37321 along with current buffers at its output to meet your current requirement need? This may be also an alternative cost effective solution that you may find helpful in your design.

    Let me know your thought.

Please let us know if you require further assistance or press the green button if this helped address your concerns.

    Regards,

  • Hi Mamadu,

I am very glad to see you and thanks for your supports!

The current buffer circuit is good idea, regarding to the design solution,I have two questions below:

    1. Could I have N-MOSFET and P-MOSFET to replace T1 and T2 respectively ?

    2. Would the output current of buffer circuit mainly depend on the VDD power rather than the output current of ucc37321 ?

    Best Regards,

    John
  • Hi John,

Thanks for getting back to me.

    1. Section 3.2 of the copied app note discusses limitations of the MOSFETs pairs.

    2. The output current of the non-inverting buffer pairs will be dependent on the VDD supply and the total impedance of the turn-on path.

Another important factor to note is to ensure that C3 and current buffer must be placed very close to the MOSFET being driven to reduce the loop of the peak currents path.

Please let me know if you have further questions or press the green button if this helped address your concerns.

    Thanks.

    Regards,

    -Mamadou
